Free Crochet Pattern - Multi-Color Crochet Mug Warmer

PATTERN:

Materials:

-Worsted weight yarn

-Size I 5.5mm crochet hook

-Tapestry needle

-Decorative (or not so decorative) button

Begin with a foundation Ch of 15 (or longer or shorter depending on the height of your mug)

Row 2: Dc in the 2nd Ch from hook, Dc in each st (13 sts), Ch 2, turn

Rows 3-23 (or more or less depending on your mug circumference): Repeat row 2 (on row 23 do not Ch 2 at the end, just turn)

Row 24: Sl st in first 6 sts (or halfway across the row if you adjusted the pattern), Ch 8, sl st in very next st and in the next 6 sts, finish off, weave ends.

Sew your button onto the front of the work on the other end from the buttonhole loop (near your foundation Ch)

How to Crochet a Hexagon

Easy Crochet Small Hearts

PATTERN:

Materials:

-Worsted weight yarn (although you could follow this pattern with just about any yarn and hook)

-Size H 5mm crochet hook

-Tapestry needle

***For the SMALL HEART: only complete round 1 and finish off

***For the MEDIUM HEART: complete rounds 1 & 2 and finish off

***For the LARGE HEART: complete rounds 1, 2, & 3 and finish off

Begin with a magic ring, Ch 2

How To Crochet a Magic Ring

A magic ring is a way to begin crocheting in the round by crocheting over an adjustable loop and then pulling the loop tight. The advantage of the magic ring method (below, right) is that, unlike the regular “chain 2, x single crochet in 2nd chain from hook” method (below, left), there is no hole left in the middle of your starting round.

 

Make a loop a few inches from the end of your yarn. Grasp the join of the loop (where the 2 strands of yarn overlap) between your left thumb and forefinger

Insert hook into the loop from front to back. Draw up a loop

Ch 1 (or as many as stated in your pattern). Note: this does NOT count as a stitch

Insert hook into the loop, so you are crocheting over the loop and the yarn tail. Draw up a loop to begin your first sc of Rnd 1

Complete the sc. Continue to crochet over the loop and the yarn tail until you have the required number of sc for your first round

Grab the yarn tail and pull to draw the centre of the ring tightly closed

Begin your second round by crocheting into the first stitch of the first round (below, left).

How to Size Crochet Beanies

HOW TO SIZE CROCHET HATS + MASTER BEANIE PATTERN

When you crochet beanies from the top down and you stop increasing, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the hat won’t continue to widen for a few rows. It will take several rows after stopping the increases before it begins to really straighten out on the sides. So, we have a handy dandy chart that tells you when to stop increasing so you don’t end up with a fruit bowl or worse: a lamp shade.

If you are making for a child, you will want to stop increasing when the width of the hat reaches about 6.5”. Use the guide above as a general rule of thumb. Check the width of your beanie after every round. When you get the crown of the hat about as wide as suggested, simply stop increasing. If you stop increasing at 6.5″ and have 60 sts in that round, you would continue making 60 st rows until you reach the desired length. In this case about 7.5 – 8″.

This project had to be quick and simple though as my checklist is long and there is no time to waste!

The hat I made is in a NEWBORN size – perfect for tiny little cuties.

Begin with a magic ring, Ch 2, 11 Dc in magic ring, sl st to join, Ch 2

Round 2: 2 Dc in each st around, sl st to join, Ch 2

Round 3: *2 Dc in first st, Dc in next st*, repeat from * around, sl st to join, Ch 2

Round 4: *2 Dc in first st, Dc in next 2 sts*, repeat from * around, sl st to join, Ch 2

Round 5-10: Dc in each st around, sl st to join, Ch 2
